Transforming food supply chains for sustainability

چکیده
Abstract Modern food supply chains ‐‐ infused with scientific and engineering innovations have made increasingly more affordable accessible. Yet there is growing concern about the long‐term sustainability of our system. Over time, inputs (e.g., water, fertile soil, fossil fuels, chemicals) working resources land, labor) required for industrial production its associated chain structure become scarce hence expensive. At same by‐products these farming activities farm runoff, greenhouse gas emissions) often created negative externalities on environment human health. To improve production, research from life sciences recommends adoption transformative methods that incorporate ecological principles in a sustainable approach to farming. Operationally, this leverages \emph{economies scope}. In order maintain strategic alignment, changing should be complemented appropriate changes rest chain, including consumption habits. We propose agenda informed by findings sciences, integrates approaches management as well agricultural economics, align partners consumers production.

Supply chains as a lever for sustainability ?
Supply chains can act as effective mechanisms for raising environmental and social standards but can be very blunt instruments. While supply chain action can bring sustainability gains, it can also have unintended negative consequences and cause considerable resentment at the mismatch between costs and benefits along the chain. This article looks at how and why supply chains are being used to i...
متن کاملMeasuring the Sustainability of Global Supply Chains
Researchers and practitioners alike have become increasingly interested in the environmental performance of global supply chains. Does improving the environmental performance of a single link of a supply chain improve the entire chain’s sustainability — that is, economic, social, and environmental outcomes? Answering this question is impossible without a way to measure performance, and this pap...

Supply Chains present many research challenges in Computing, such as the modeling of theirs processes, communication problems between theirs components, logistics and processes management. This paper presents a supply chain traceability model that relies on a Web service-based architecture to ensure interoperability. Geared towards assisting quality control in the agricultural domain, the model...

An organization’s long-term viability and competitiveness should not be evaluated solely in terms of financial measures. Investors, policy makers, and other stakeholders increasingly seek to evaluate performance with respect to sustainability—the environmental, social, and economic performance of an organization. But measuring and improving the sustainability performance of supply chains is cha...
